Everything
from a stay in Cairo.
Based in Cairo for two years, I crossed the region as soon
as the occasion arose. In every journey I returned bathed by
tastes, by lights, by new textures... New magic, but the sensations
were short-lived, as they were part of a journey. The pleasures
of a soft tamarind drink in the shade of a cedar, a water honey
pipe in a cafe, sitting by the red tea, all shared with a friend
after a game of backgammon... Now, I occasionally remind myself
of the beauty and the simplicity of these moments which were
for me great luxuries to savour and treasure. So I always noted,
stuck, slid small treasures in my pads. None of them have survived
time.
In Cairo, I rediscovered the ancestral work of bookbinding,
the tradition going back to the time of the expedition of
Bonaparte. I observed artisans putting the love in the gesture
and giving a soul to the books which they bound. They offered
time the fruit of their labour, and now time respects their
creation.
Filled with the desire to share my journeys experiences,
I returned bringing back products rich with this spirit.
Finally, I gathered the know-how of several countries in
a single product: the ideal journey diary. It has accompanied
me since, a faithful fellow traveller, solid and elegant,
discreet and luxurious this solidly bound pad, just like
all the albums and books that we propose today in a large
variety of forms and colours, is my sacred object, because
it is the work of those who chose to put their heart in it.
